John Lynch: 49ers content to draft ‘cornerstone’ player at No. 2
John Lynch: 49ers content to draft ‘cornerstone’ player at No. 2 General manager John Lynch indicated today the 49ers are still open for business when it comes to trading the No. 2 pick, but added that they are content to stand pat if a deal can’t be consummated. [...] otherwise we’re going to pick a player at (No. 2) that we feel is a cornerstone for this franchise for years to come. [...] we’ll be very passionate about that pick and what that player can do us for us moving forward. [...] assuming the Browns take Texas A&M pass-rusher Myles Garrett at No. 1, there isn’t a consensus second-best player in the draft. “There’s a lot of assumptions being made, but I feel real confident that those are exactly that because nothing has left this building,” Lynch said. Asked if the 49ers would consider a QB at No. 2, Lynch noted the importance of the position and said it would always be an area of intense focus.
