The NLC president, Comrade Ayuba Wabba has blamed the systemic breakdown of Nigeria's major institutions for the scourge of corruption ravaging the nation.

Wabba made the observation on Tuesday, May 23 at a march organised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Corruption (EFCC) in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to Wabba, there is systemic corruption in Nigeria at all levels; therefore Nigerians must be ready to make sacrifices to make Nigeria a better place.

His words: “We Nigerians must take over the fight against corruption. Our politicians are crying, we the people that are being exploited, we are also crying. So we don’t know also, who is corrupt.

“Even the corrupt elites, are also saying Nigeria is corrupt, we that we are on the ground, we are also saying the same.

“The fight against corruption, if it doesn’t succeed, all of us Nigerians will be at the receiving end. Because the fact is very obvious, why we don’t have good roads, the answer is simple, it is corruption.

“When we don’t have hospitals and our leaders prefer to go outside the shores of this country, it is very simple. It is because the money has been stolen and these days, we have seen even burial grounds are been used to store money.”

Wabba however praised the acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, for his achievements since taking over as the anti-graft commission boss.

He stated that despite all odds, Magu has remained resolute, and continued to fight the fight against corruption.

He assured the EFCC boss of the NLC support, even as he tasked Nigerians to support the fight against corruption wholeheartedly.

Speaking after Wabba, Magu lamented that despite the efforts of the EFCC, the patrons of corruption are plotting how to continue the looting.

“A band of corrupt elites threatened by momentum of the anti-graft war wants to derail the process.

“They are deadly, and without remorse, they plot and scheme to defeat the anti-corruption and take the country back to the dark days when corruption and impunity reigns supreme,” Magu said.

He however promised that the EFCC will continue to haunt the looters of the nation's treasury.
