Zhang Yiyang, a Chinese singer and actor, became the first celebrity in China to be executed after being convicted for brutally murdering his 16-year-old girlfriend in 2022. Following his crime, the actor was executed on December 18, 2024. However, the details of his death were recently released by the Xianyang Intermediate People's Court in Shaanxi.

 

When did the incident take place?

 

As per reports by Koreaboo and Dimsumdaily Hong Kong, the incident took place on February 26, 2022. Zhang took the girl into a secluded forest area in Xingping City, to celebrate his birthday. However, in the meeting, things took a turn and the girl wanted to end their relationship, sparking a heated argument between the two.

 

How did Zhang kill the girl?

 

As things escalated, the actor violently attacked the girl with a folding knife, stabbing multiple times in the neck. The attack caused several injuries to the neck cutting her carotid artery and windpipe, leading to her death on the spot.

 

How did Zhang try to hide the scene?

 

In an attempt to hide the crime, Zhang staged it to make the scene look like a suicide. Later on he attempted to end his own life but survived and was caught by the local authorities. The news of the murder spread like wildfire across China. During that time, Zhang was seen as a promising figure in the entertainment industry, as he has appeared in many television and web dramas.

 

Zhang Yiyang was found guilty and was charged for intentional homicide. His trial concluded with a death sentence, after his appeal was rejected. In December 2024, he was executed by the firing squad, an execution method still used in China.

 

Zhang Yiyang is said to be one of the most sensational cases in Mainland China. Despite his newfound success as an actor and was soon to be the next superstar. He was the first celebrity to be executed for a heinous crime in Mainland China.
