Armenia participates in 7th session of UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7)
ArmInfo. Armenia, represented by Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan, participated in the 7th session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7).
Specifically, the Minister of Finance delivered a speech during the discussion entitled "Why Combating Environmental Degradation Matters for the Future of the Global Financial System," during which he noted the importance of preserving biodiversity and protecting the environment.
He noted that existing challenges in this area have a direct impact on the economy, fiscal policy, and debt sustainability.
In his speech, Vahe Hovhannisyan also touched upon the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which will be held in Armenia in 2026. In this context, the Minister emphasized that COP17 represents an excellent opportunity to develop new, effective mechanisms for public-private cooperation. As a reminder, UNEA is held biennially and is considered one of the largest high-level platforms for discussing global environmental policy and agendas.
UNEA-7 is also one of the last major high-level international events to be held before COP17.
The event took place from December 8-12, 2025, at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya, and was dedicated to the theme "Developing Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet."
