Armenian MPs received huge bonuses while 24% of country`s population is experiencing bread shortages
ArmInfo. Members of the Armenian Parliament received bonuses of 3 million drams (approximately $7,800) at the end of the year, despite the fact that 24% of the Armenian population is experiencing bread shortages. This was stated by David Manukyan, a member of the Council of Elders and a member of the political council of the "Country for Life" party.
He recalled that the Republic of Armenia is a parliamentary country, and the National Assembly is considered the governing body of the state and bears primary responsibility for everything that happens in the country.
"Why were you awarded when 24% of the population of the country you lead is experiencing bread shortages, when there are 2,500 houses in Gyumri where people have lived for 37 years, when 150,000 Armenians have become refugees under your responsibility? For example, with these 300 million, one could have provided apartments for 15 families," the politician wrote on his Facebook page.
He also expressed confidence that if justice existed in Armenia, today's MPs would not only receive no awards, but also no salaries.
"In 2026, we must have a National Assembly that cares about its country and its people, and that can honorably fulfill its mission of governing the country. And finally, our people should not feel ashamed while watching the sessions of the National Assembly," Manukyan concluded.
