Arakchi and Witkoff are negotiating
ArmInfo. The head of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araqchi, contacted U.S. President's special envoy Steve Witkoff in an effort to reduce tensions surrounding Iran, Axios reports, citing sources.
"Araqchi reached out to Witkoff over the weekend amid U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to use military force against Iran and in support of the protests, according to two informed sources," the portal reported.
According to sources, "this outreach was apparently an attempt by Iran to achieve a de-escalation with the U.S. or, at the very least, to buy more time before Trump orders any action to further weaken the regime."
The portal reported that Araqchi and Witkoff discussed the possibility of holding a meeting in the coming days. (INTERFAX)
