Arakchi: diplomacy and threats are incompatible
ArmInfo. Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said diplomacy cannot prove its "effectiveness" or "deliver results" through military threats.
The foreign minister's comments come amid a US military buildup near Iran. Furthermore, President Donald Trump has made a number of provocative statements against Iran.
Araqchi said: "If they want negotiations, they must abandon exorbitant and illogical demands."
Araqchi also denied reports of contacts between him and US envoy Steve Witkoff in recent days. He also stated that Tehran has not made any proposals for talks with the United States.
The top diplomat stated that Iran is in contact with various countries that are striving to "fulfill their role in good faith," but "no decisions have been made yet, and no requests have been received from our side."
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly called for a deal with Iran regarding its nuclear program. Iran does not reject the possibility of dialogue, but insists that its inalienable right to a peaceful nuclear program must be respected.
