ATWATER TWP. — At practice the day before Waterloo boys basketball's tournament opener, the players mentioned they had never been part of a postseason win before. A good portion of the roster wasn't even in high school yet for the Vikings' last tournament win, back in 2023. So Waterloo's 51-48 win over Cardinal in their Division VII first-round match-up Feb. 23 was about far more than overcoming a tough second quarter and a seven-point halftime deficit to extend the season. "I told the guys at the beginning of the year we're all kind of growing together," Vikings coach Gavin English said. "This is only my second year [as head coach]. All these guys don't have a whole lot of varsity...
