Armenian expert: Europe was drawn into the US strategy of "peace through hard power," against its will
ArmInfo. The US transactional approach in negotiations with Iran has been modified and transformed into a strategy of "peace through hard power," into which Europe was drawn against its will, as stated by pPolitical scientist and international observer Movses Ghazaryan, during a Yerevan-Moscow video conference on "The Situation in Iran and the Countries of the South Caucasus."
According to the expert, even the US's closest ally, Great Britain, despite its position, was reluctant to provide its military infrastructure for operations against Iran until the very end. He added that countries such as Portugal and Spain also did not welcome the use of their territory for Iranian military campaigns. "Europeans find themselves in a situation where they are forced to join this camp, but they certainly do not want war. Interestingly, even in Greece, numerous anti-war rallies took place. Moreover, the protests took place not in the capital, but in regions where American air force bases were deployed," the political scientist noted.
The expert believes that Europe could adopt a conciliatory stance in this situation, but noted that this is not currently happening. He explained that this is due to the existence of a strict hierarchy within Western countries, within which discipline is maintained when making important shared decisions. At the same time, the expert noted that in the current situation, Iran has for the first time had the opportunity to assert its geopolitical status in the Middle East. However, he noted that this will be associated with internal challenges.
Speaking about possible scenarios, the political scientist noted that a negative development is the more probable scenario. "Nevertheless, there is a possibility that both sides, having had enough of the military scenario, could begin to gradually reduce military activity to create conditions for dialogue. However, we are unlikely to see a reduction in the potential for conflict in the coming week. The parties will likely not move to diplomacy anytime soon, at least until they realize that military action is creating problems for themselves," the expert concluded.
