Kallas: Russia and its proxies ramping up disinformation campaigns in Armenia ahead of 2026 parliamentary elections
ArmInfo. Russia and its proxies are ramping up their disinformation campaign in Armenia ahead of next year's elections, as stated by Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, in her speech during the extraordinary meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs.
"At the same time, we also see that the closer a country gets to the EU, the greater the pressure from malign foreign influence. Russia and its proxies are ramping up disinformation campaigns, including in Armenia, ahead of next year's elections. Moldova was this year's primary target, but also the best proof that this challenge can be overcome," Kallas said. In this vein, she thanked the Committee for keeping the fight against foreign interference high on the agenda and recognizing the urgency of increased ambition and resources to fight it.
.
"On my side, we will keep mobilize the External Action Service assets we have created over the last decade, while supporting civil society and free media. As we learnt from Moldova, countering foreign interference and defending the integrity of elections requires a "whole-of-society" approach," she added.
