Aston Villa have somehow twisted themselves into what Daniel Storey of The i Paper described as a ‘mini-crisis’ – and he’s not wrong. The results have been terrible and deserved. Monchi has gone. Unai Emery, ostensibly in a position of strength as the manager, is nevertheless under increased scrutiny from outside.
Emery and his team have their sights set on success in the Europa League this season, as far away as that might sound given Villa’s current form.
Every fixture brings new pressure on Villa at the moment but this should be seen as a chance to shake off the weight of the Premier League campaign thus far and embrace a relatively fresh start.
As important as it is, the Europa League is a blank canvas. Let’s hope Emery’s got his halved potatoes and bits of sponge and paint ready for some killer painting.
What time does Villa v Bologna kick off?
The Europa League fixtures are usually 8.00pm kick-offs but some, as in previous seasons in the Conference League and Champions League, start at 5.45pm UK time.
They will usually be played on Thursday nights – indeed all of Villa’s will – but this week there are Wednesday matches in the Europa League too.
Villa v Bologna will kick off at 8.00pm on Thursday 25th September.
