Known for his prolific and memorable comedic moments, playwright and screenwriter Neil Simon (who died on August 26, 2018) often used his own experiences for comic material, from "Biloxi Blues" to "Brighton Beach Memoirs." Writing gags for TV, especially Sid Caesar's "Your Show of Shows," would also inspire his play "Laughter on the 23rd Floor." He talked with correspondent Rita Braver about some of his many Broadway hits, including "Barefoot in the Park," "The Odd Couple" and "Sweet Charity," which were adapted for films and TV. Cynthia Nixon request shines light on workplace temperatures that accommodate men

New York gubernatorial candidate and former "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon put workplace temperatures in the headlines before Wednesday night's debate against Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Nixon's team asked that the temperature in the hall be raised to 76 degrees, calling too-cold work environments "notoriously sexist." Nikki Battiste reports.

Parents urged to prioritize their kids' eye exams

Doctors are urging parents to make eye exams a priority. The American Optometric Association says 25 percent of children already wear or need glasses by the time they enter kindergarten. Dr. Tamiesha Frempong, a pediatric ophthalmologist at Mount Sinai in New York, joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss the warning signs for children's vision issues.

Detroit public schools shut off water due to high lead, copper levels

Drinking water is being shut off in all of Detroit's public schools after testing revealed harmful levels of copper and lead in multiple buildings. Water quality issues have now been detected in 34 schools, nearly a third of the district. DeMarco Morgan reports.

Florida Uber driver cites stand your ground law after deadly shooting

A Florida Uber driver who claimed self defense in a new stand your ground controversy will not face charges for the deadly shooting of another driver. Dash cam video from the Tuesday confrontation shows Jason Boek approach the car and apparently threaten the driver before he was shot. Tony Dokoupil reports.
