U.S. executes Daniel Lewis Lee, first federal prisoner to face lethal injection since 2003

A federal inmate was executed in the U.S. for the first time in 17 years on Tuesday morning, after a late night Supreme Court decision overturned the decision of lower courts and allowed it to proceed in a 5-4 vote. Daniel Lewis Lee received a lethal injection in Indiana, nearly 25 years after he was convicted of murdering three members of an Arkansas family. Lee told witnesses he did not do it.

Kelly Preston dies after 2-year battle with breast cancer

Actress Kelly Preston has died after a two-year battle with breast cancer. Her husband of nearly 29 years, actor John Travolta, broke the news to fans on Instagram. Preston began her career in the 1980s and went on to appear in popular movies, like "Jerry Maguire." She and Travolta last starred together in the 2018 film "Gotti." Preston was 57 years old.

Allentown police investigating after officer places knee on man's neck

There were protests in Allentown, Pennsylvania after a police officer was caught on camera placing his knee on a man's neck while attempting to restrain him. Police say officers observed the man vomiting and staggering in the street outside a hospital on Saturday, and when they attempted to restrain the man, they say he was noncompliant. The man was later treated at the hospital and released. Allentown's police chief told protesters the department is investigating the officer's use of force.

Comet Neowise is passing Earth for the first time in almost 6,800 years

A 3-mile-wide comet named Neowise is passing Earth on a journey that will not happen again for another 6,800 years. Experts say the best time to see it is about an hour after sunset, under the Big Dipper constellation. The closest the comet will be to Earth is on July 22.
