Disturbance call at CT restaurant leads to arrest of two men in stolen BMW on multiple charges

A disturbance call at a Southington restaurant led to the arrest of two men who were in possession of a stolen BMW, police said.

On June 20, officers responded to Moe’s Southwest Grill at 720 Queen St. on a 911 disturbance call. While at the scene, officers said they observed a white BMW sedan parked in the parking lot that reportedly matched the description of a vehicle that had eluded a Southington police officer a few weeks prior, according to the Southington Police Department.

The vehicle, a 2018 BMW 750, reportedly had a misused Connecticut registration, police said.

Officers approached the vehicle to investigate and made contact with 21-year-old Keon Jesi Mayes of Waterbury. Mayes was detained and a check of the vehicle’s VIN allegedly showed that the BMW was a stolen motor vehicle out of New York, according to police.

Just minutes later, officers said a man exited Moe’s Southwest Grill and began to walk toward the BMW. The man, later identified as 20-year-old Xavion Dwight McMillian of Waterbury, was approaching the front driver’s side door of the vehicle when officers attempted to detain him, police said.

According to police, McMillian attempted to flee on foot.. After a short foot pursuit, McMillian was taken into custody near the front entrance to Moe’s Southwest Grill without incident, police said.

During a search of the stolen motor vehicle, officers allegedly located a Smith and Wesson M&P15 Rifle (.22 Caliber), which was registered to McMillian, and an unregistered SCCY 9mm pistol, according to police.

Both men were detained and transported to Southington police headquarters where Mayes was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal transfer/purchase of a Firearm and weapons in a motor vehicle. McMillian was charged with interfering with an officer, first-degree larceny, weapons in a motor vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle and misuse of marker plates, police said.

Mayes was held on a $250,000 cash/surety bond, and McMillian was issued a $300,000 cash/surety bond, according to police.

Police said both men appeared at New Britain Superior Court on June 21.
