Lina Ghotmeh named one of the world's most influential rising stars by Time

Lebanese architect Lina Ghotmeh has been named on the Time100 Next list of the world's 100 most influential rising stars.

Ghotmeh, who designed the boat-like Bahrain Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, is the only architect named on the list by Time magazine, which also features actors, singers, and people in sports and business.

The Times100 Next list was launched in 2019 to recognise those emerging as leaders in their respective industries, published as an expansion to the long-running Time100 list.

Ghotmeh was nominated for the list by BIG founder Bjarke Ingels, who was named on the Time100 list in 2016.

Since founding Lina Ghotmeh – Architecture in Paris in 2016, Ghotmeh has designed a glulam structure for the 2023 Serpentine Pavilion and completed a brick workshop in France for luxury brand Hermès.

This year, she was selected in an international competition to renovate the British Museum's Western Range galleries in London, and revealed as the designer for the permanent Qatar pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale.

Prior to establishing her eponymous studio, Ghotmeh designed the Estonian National Museum with architects Dan Dorell and Tsuyoshi Tane.

"I met Lina Ghotmeh in the middle of the Estonian forest at the very beginning of her career," said Ingels. "I was immediately impressed; she exhibited a calm confidence and a clarity of mind that signalled a long and successful career ahead."

"Lina has clearly not disappointed, as evidenced by her recent win of the commission to redesign a major portion of the British Museum," he continued. "To be able to win any of the global competitions that our industry calls for is no small feat – to have won more than one, as Lina has, is a true sign of staying power."

"When I look at her work, I see simplicity combined with a strong-­willed boldness, and a respect for tradition with a contemporary twist," he aded.

Earlier this year, Time magazine named architects Annabelle Selldorf and Ma Yansong on its Time 100 list of most influential people for 2025, and in 2024, architects Lesley Lokko and Marina Tabassum made the list.
