This year Easter Week in Marbella will begin on Saturday, April 1 with the departure of the throne of the Nuestra Señora de la Amargura Parish Association.
The strong image of Semana Santa in Andalucia is, of course, the procession with the penitents carrying the thrones. These penitents are also called “Nazarenes” and all belong to a religious brotherhood (Hermandad), each with their own thrones. The thrones are decorated with gold or silver, hundreds of flowers, and dozens of candles. They are very heavy and it takes between fifty and eighty persons to carry each one through the streets of Marbella. Marching bands play solemn music as the processions continue their route through Marbella.
Except of the Palm Sunday procession that takes place in the morning, all the Easter Week processions in Marbella begins in the evening. Due to the weight of the thrones, the pace is slow and the processions usually take hours to reach their final confinement. There is a procession every day during Easter Week with the exception of Holy Saturday (April 8).

Palm Sanday – April 2.
Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus of Misericordia at His Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem and Holy Mary of Peace and Hope “La Polínica”.

- Departure: 5:00 p.m.(Ntra. Sra. de la Encarnación Church).
- Tribune: 6:00 p.m. approx.
This procession in Marbella is a family occasion and most of the Nazarenes are children. They wear white and hold palm leaves.
Easter Tuesday – April 4
Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Captive, Holy Mary of the Incarnation, Santa Marta, San Lázaro and María.
- 3 thrones and 310 Nazarenes.
- Departure: 9:00 p.m. (Ntra. Sra. de la Encarnación Church).
- Tribune: 11:15 p.m. approx.
It is counted among the largest Holy Week processions in Marbella with a total of three thrones. The Nazarenes wear black robes
Easter Thursday – April 6
Brotherhood of Nazarenes of the Most Holy Christ of Love, Most Holy Mary of Charity and Saint John the Evangelist.
- 3 thrones and 300 Nazarenes.
- Departure: 8:00 p.m. (Ermita de Santiago).
- Tribune: 8:45 p.m. approx.
Another large procession with three thrones. Participating brotherhoods wear green or red robes.
Good Friday – April 7
Holy Sepulcro.
- 1 throne and 120 Nazarenes.
- Departure: 9:00 p.m. (Holy Sepulcher Chapel)
- Tribune: 11:15 p.m. approx.
Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora la Soledad.
- 1 throne and 300 Nazarenes.
- Departure: 9:30 p.m. (Ntra. Sra. de la Encarnación Church)
- Tribune: 11:30 p.m. approx.
The most solemn of all the processions during Easter Week in Marbella. One of the most emotional moments occurs when thrones meets. The procession leaves from the Church square. The Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, which carries a procession on Good Friday, is the oldest in the city, it was founded in 1670. Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, which is venerated in the parish of Sta. María de la Encarnación in this Very noble and very loyal City of Marbella.
