India’s Union Budget 2026‑27 marks another step in the country’s green transition but with a familiar pattern of big intentions and cautious allocations. The government has announced a ₹20,000‑crore, five‑year outlay for Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), signalling India’s shift into the pilot and demonstration phase of this complex technology. While CCUS is crucial for hard‑to‑abate sectors like steel, cement and aluminium, global experience from Norway, Canada and the U.S. shows that scaling it remains costly and uneven.
