Killian Hayes: I hope to stay in Detroit
This is also your last year of contract, do you see yourself in Detroit long-term, or are you open to a new challenge with perhaps more responsibilities? Killian Hayes: For now, I’m in Detroit and we’re going to do everything to finish the season strong and then we’ll have discussions this summer. I’ve spent my entire NBA career in Detroit and it would be a pleasure to be able to stay. After that, it’s not just me who decides, but Detroit is my home. It’s been my home for three, four years and I hope to stay.

What is your relationship with Monty Williams? Are you still adjusting to his system and coaching style? Killian Hayes: Yes, there was a learning period because he’s a new coach, a new coaching staff, with a new system and new terminologies. After all, he’s a very, very good coach. His resume speaks for itself, especially with what he did in Phoenix. Honestly, for example, offensively there are a lot more options than last season. He’s a great coach and I’m learning a lot from him. -via Basket USA / January 8, 2024
A week ago, Evan Fournier said in our columns that he found that young French players are not in love with the French team as he and others were at the same age. He had noted your refusal to go to the U20, for example. Would you like to respond to him? Killian Hayes: If I refused the U20, it’s because I was 17 years old. It wasn’t my age group and I really wanted to work all summer to be ready for my first professional season. That was the main reason I declined the selection and nothing else. I’ve always loved France, I’ve always wanted to represent it, and today if I have the opportunity to claim a spot on the team, it would really be an honor to wear the blue jersey. -via Basket USA / January 8, 2024
