OKC Mayor David Holt unveils new arena renderings during his State of the City address
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - On Wednesday, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt is giving the State of the City address, and he showcased a bold new vision for downtown.
He unveiled the architectural renderings of the new arena being built where the former Myriad once stood and, most recently, was home to Prairie Surf Studios.
Oklahoma City voters approved a 1% sales tax for six years to help fund a new downtown arena for the NBA’s Thunder that is expected to cost at least $900 million.
The Oklahoma State Election Board reported that 71% of the city’s voters approved the plan.
Another topic of the State of the City address was the upcoming general bond election for Oklahoma City residents.
The Oklahoma City Council voted on Tuesday to bring a $2.7 billion general bond to a vote in October. The $2.7 billion bond would be funded by property taxes but wouldn’t raise property tax rates and includes 11 separate propositions.
The 11 propositions will be on the ballot on October 14.
