OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - The Oklahoma City Zoo shared an adorable video of baby elephant, Xerxes, splashing around in water in celebration of World Elephant Day.
According to the Zoo, the celebration is Saturday, August 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Guests can expect fun activities and enrichment. There will even be a presentation at 11 a.m. showing guests how caretakers look after the elephants.
According to the Zoo, first-time parents, Achara and Bowie, welcomed male calf Xerxes (ZURK-seez) on Tuesday, June 17, at 6:56 a.m. The birth was highly anticipated after the Zoo announced Achara’s pregnancy in February 2024.
Officials say the name Xerxes is Greek for “ruler of heroes”. The name was chosen by the Zoo’s elephant care team.
