EMSA ends Medical Heat Alert as temperatures cool
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — EMSA's Medical Heat Alert has been allowed to expire as cooler temperatures move in Thursday afternoon and over the next several days.
The Medical Heat Alert has been active since its issuance on Wednesday, July 9. Oklahoma City EMSA medics responded to 69 heat-related illness calls, while having transported 40 patients to the hospital for their symptoms over that period, according to officials.
Overall, in 2025 so far, Oklahoma City EMSA medics have responded to 192 heat-related illness calls and have transported 129 patients to the hospital.
KFOR meteorologist Aaron Brackett says a cold front is moving through, with a few isolated showers expected Thursday into Friday morning, bringing cooler temperatures to much of the state.
EMSA issues Medical Heat Safety Alerts when medics respond to five or more heat-related illness calls in a 24-hour period. The alert will stay in effect until temperatures cool down or the number of heat-related illness calls decreases, officials say.
