Time is running out to sign up for OKC emergency ambulance coverage

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla — Time is running out for Oklahoma City residents to sign up for a service that could save them thousands in a medical emergency.

September is EMSACare enrollment month and it covers the out-of-pocket expenses for EMSA emergency ambulance transports ending at a hospital ER anywhere in the EMSA service area.

"Without EMSACare an ambulance ride for some may cost upwards of $1,300 to $1,400. Even if you have insurance, so this is just an added piece of mind for families," said Adam Paluka, EMSA spokesperson.

That added piece of mind only costs residents $3.65 each month. The membership covers everyone living in the home and there's no limit on how many ambulance rides are needed.

EMSA officials say its saved Oklahoma City residents over $40 million in recent years.

"September is the only month when those who are opted out can choose to change their enrollment status and opt in and if they don't make that decision to opt in by September 30th, their next opportunity is going to be September 1st, 2026," said Paluka.

Oklahoma City residents who are not EMSAcare members can enroll by logging on to their Utilities account through the My OKC Utilities mobile app, visiting okcutilities.com or calling Utilities Customer Service at (405) 297-2833.

Residents living in multi-family housing units, such as apartments, who do not have an OKC Utilities account can check with their landlord to determine if they are enrolled in the program. If not, they can enroll directly with EMSA for a $45 annual fee by calling (405) 396-2888 or click here.
