Lafayette Police Department warns shoppers of stalking around city
"Any type of human trafficking or kidnapping would not be tolerated," Green said. "So, we will come out, we will investigate, and if necessary, arrests will be done."
LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY) -- A woman went to social media after experiencing a suspicious stalking encounter at the Lafayette TJ MAXX retail store. With it being Human Trafficking Prevention Month, the Lafayette Police Department talked about what people should look out for to stay safe.
"Any type of human trafficking or kidnapping would not be tolerated," Green said. "So, we will come out, we will investigate, and if necessary, arrests will be done."
The social media post stated how a woman and her friend noticed two men with backpacks and earpieces following them around the store. After realizing what was going on, the two women got a manager to escort them to their vehicles safely.
Sgt. Green said the best way to stay safe is being aware of surroundings. She also advised people to carry some form of protection like pepper spray or take self defense courses to have a fighting chance.
"It means precious moments between arriving or someone walking up and noticing something going on," Green said.
The department and other law enforcement agencies are taking note of these situations and are ready to take action when needed.
"If it is happening, we encourage people to contact law enforcement so that we can be aware and we can document these instances," Green said.
