Ex-STM teacher Angel Cardona pleads guilty to sex crime with 13-year-old
Angel Cardona pleaded guilty in federal court this morning to enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity, admitting to talking to a 13-year-old girl and asking for sexually explicit pictures.
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Angel Cardona, who was hired as a teacher and coach at St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette before being arrested and charged with sex crimes, pleaded guilty to at least one of the charges.
Cardona pleaded guilty in federal court this morning to enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity, admitting to talking to a 13-year-old girl between June 5 and July 10 and asking for sexually explicit pictures.
The plea deal accepted by U.S. District Judge David C. Joseph this morning stipulates that Cardona will serve at least 10 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for April 25.
Cardona had been charged with enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity and attempted production of child pornography. He was arrested in July by U.S. Marshals before stepping into an STM classroom.
