Bunkie man accused of setting house on fire with people inside
Jeffery Dixon, 46, was booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail on Tuesday on one count each of attempted second degree murder, aggravated arson, simple burglary and violation of a protective order.
AVOYELLES PARISH (WNTZ) -- State Fire Marshal (SFM) deputies have arrested a Bunkie man for setting fire to a house with someone inside.
Jeffery Dixon, 46, was booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail on Tuesday on one count each of attempted second degree murder, aggravated arson, simple burglary and violation of a protective order.
Authorities said the Bunkie Fire Department responded to the 300 block of S. Louisiana Avenue around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a house fire. Firefighters arrived to find the home’s back porch on fire and one of the residents safely outside. The fire was quickly extinguished, authorities said.
SFM investigators said the fire was intentionally set and identified Dixon as a suspect. Dixon was located a few houses away by the Bunkie Police Department and a warrant was obtained for Dixon’s arrest in connection with this fire.
Bond details were not released.
