News 10 made its way to Loreauville for the popular Papa Red Dog Mardi Gras Day Parade.
LOREAUVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- News 10 made its way to Loreauville for the popular Papa Red Dog Mardi Gras Day Parade.
After speaking with the man himself, Mr. Lawrence Zacharie, he says he is excited for yet another year of Mardi Gras on Main Street.
"It really is exciting. I just hope everyone comes out and enjoys and gets home safe," Zacharie said.
For nearly 40 years, The Papa Red Dog Parade makes its way down Loreauville's Main Street for the community and others looking to attend. From floats to friends and family, to fun, the parade brings the joy of Mardi Gras to Loreauville every year. Zacharie's daughter, Winnie Zacharie, has been the president of the parade for years. As she does her work to honor her father, she expresses what makes this parade so special to the community.
"The people, having everybody out and enjoying themselves. Everybody comes together as a village, as a community. Just people are family friendly," said Winnie.
As the parade continues to grow, people have mixed emotions about what they want for its future. Darlene Jeanlouis hope the event can grow and add new festivities to the mix.
"We hope to have a ball. We hope to have a queen and a king and hopefully the queen can accompany y'all with our king, Papa Red Dog," said Jeanlouis.
Iberia Parish District 9 Schoolboard Member Dana Dugas wants to keep it small to continue the small-town aspect the parade has always had.
"We're trying to keep it, you know, where it is just Loreauville. Yeah, it could get bigger, but you lose all that small town village charm," said Dugas.
Whether it grows to new heights or remains the same, the papa red dog parade will continue on for the community to enjoy every year.
