FRANKLIN, La, (KLFY) -- A man released from jail by mistake was found and charged with more crimes stemming from his re-arrest, officials said.
Fred Purnell Kenner, 37, of Patterson, was arrested on at 8:31 pm Tuesday on the following charges:
- Hunts Correctional Center warrant
- Resisting an officer
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of Schedule II narcotics
- Entry on or remaining in places or on land after being forbidden
- Unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling
- Violation of uniform CDS law/drug-free zone
Authorities said Kenner was serving time for possession of heroin with intent to distribute when he was released from the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on Feb. 14. On Tuesday, officials were informed by the Louisiana Department of Corrections that Kenner was released in error. Due to the error, the Louisiana Department of Corrections issued an arrest warrant for Kenner.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office detectives traveled to a residence on Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, where Kenner answered the door when detectives knocked. Upon seeing detectives he attempted to shut the door, but detectives gained entry.
Due to seeing crack cocaine in plain view, a search warrant of the residence was obtained, authorities said, where drugs and drug paraphernalia were located. Detectives were advised by Morgan City Police that Kenner was barred from the residence. Kenner had entered the residence without the knowledge of the resident who was not present, according to SMPSO.
Kenner was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.
