Warm and Unsettled Weather, Elevated Severe Threat Expected Wednesday
Acadiana's weather pattern will be unsettled until Thursday. Scattered showers and storms are possible today as rain chances increase to 50%. Any severe risk should remain mostly west of our area. Otherwise, weather conditions will be warm, humid, and breezy with temperatures near 80°.
Unfortunately, mostly cloudy skies will obscure much, if not all of the solar eclipse in Acadiana. The maximum eclipse happens at 1:46 pm in Lafayette, as 88% of the sun will be covered by the moon. Hopefully, we will get some breaks in the clouds.
Our full attention is on Wednesday as Acadiana will be at a greater risk for severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center has the "Enhanced Risk" zone for most of the area. This is considered a Level 3 out of 5 for the likelihood of severe storms. Damaging winds, tornadoes, and large hail are all possible. The setup could support the formation of a few intense tornadoes within Acadiana. Futuretrack showcases heavy rains and widespread storms starting after 5:00 am Wednesday morning.
