Summer sizzle continues with scattered storm chances
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - Summer temperatures continue in Acadiana Saturday with few rain chances at first. By lunchtime, showers and storms begin to develop and spread across the area. Rain chances will be at forty per cent this afternoon, bringing some heat relief to the area. These storms will last through the evening hours before settling down tonight. Temperatures overnight will hold in the 70s.
Sunday will likely start with pop-up storms around the area that become more widespread during the afternoon. This increase in rain chances around the area should limit how hot most areas get, with highs right around 90 degrees. Scattered storms in the afternoon will be slow-moving with heavy rain that could cause minor flood concerns in flood-prone areas. A quick one or two inches of rain is possible. Rain will continue in the evening hours before coming to an end after sunset. Have a backup plan for outdoor activities Sunday with the frequent downpours around.
In the tropics, things remain quiet and look to stay that way through the next week. However, towards the end of next week, we will monitor a weak front that looks to settle in the Gulf. An area of low pressure could develop along the tail-end of this front and, given enough time, it could turn tropical. Regardless of any development, this will bring increased rain chances to the eastern Gulf Coast by next weekend.
Locally, we will see hotter temperatures return to Acadiana next week as high pressure sets up overhead and Saharan dust helping to limit daily cooling rain chances. Highs reach the mid 90s with feels-like temperatures around 105 degrees.
