Judge rules against nurse who was accused of 'unprofessional conduct' by the Kansas Board of Nursing

TOPEKA (KSNT) — An administrative law judge has ruled against a local nurse, who was taking the Kansas Board of Nursing to court.

Back in 2024 Amy Siple, a nurse from Wichita, was accused of "Unprofessional Conduct" by the Kansas Board of Nursing. They believe, Siple was practicing without a nursing license. However, Siple tells us during this time, she had forgotten to renew her license because she was caring for her sick husband, who had been diagnosed with cancer.

Siple often gave speeches, and attended conferences during this time, but tells us she never saw any patients. Yet, the Board of Nursing elected to give her an "Unprofessional Conduct" demerit.

In response, Siple has been working to get her case dismissed. Back in August, an Administrative Law Judge heard from both Siple, and the Board of Nursing.

Now, we're learning that the judge ultimately has ruled against Siple, claiming that the decision to discipline her was within the rights of the Board of Nursing.

Siple plans to appeal the ruling and take the case to a district court. She tells us, several nurses are dealing with similar accusations against the board. She is hoping that her case will inspire others to speak up as well.

"We need to stand up when we know that there are abuses of power going on," Siple said. "Stand up for your patient and stand up for your colleagues, that's really what nursing is. I see a great future for the next generation of nurses if we can get these actions corrected, but if we can't, lord help us all."

Additionally, Siple tells us she expects the Board of Nursing to charge her for legal fees.
