Beat pumpkins, beat cancer
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A local family used Saturday's smash pumpkin day at Shively Farms to honor their daughter's memory.
The Ball family came with friends to Shively Farms to celebrate their daughter Melisa's life after losing her to cancer three years ago. This is the first time the farm held this event, and it was a fan favorite.
"It's going to be three years ago in about two days. We lost our daughter, Melisa, to a terrible case of cancer. So we had an opportunity to come out here, hit a couple pumpkins to let out some aggression," Bob Ball, Melisa's father says, "but also bring about an awareness, what cancer is, what it can do to families."
Shively Farms is closed Sunday due to weather, but you can watch the pumpkin smash videos on their Facebook page.
