BLOG: Longhorns turn it around in second half for win
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Longhorns host No. 20 Kansas State with the hopes of still making a run at the Big 12 Championship.
To even have a chance, Texas has to beat a group of confident Wildcats coming to Austin on a three-game winning streak.
The Longhorns will have several injured players back in the line up. Defensive backs Caden Sterns, DeMarvion Overshown and B.J. Foster are expected to play.

First quarter, Kansas State possession
What happened: Oh man, Texas’ defense doesn’t look like it corrected mistakes after the first drive of the game. On third and five from their own 30, Skylar Thompson found a wide open Malik Knowles down the left sideline. UT safety Brandon Jones whiffed on the tackle and Knowles was off to the races for a 70-yard touchdown.

First quarter, Texas possession
What happened: Texas picked up three first downs on their first drive moving into Wildcats territory. Ehlinger opened the drive with a powerful 18-yard run refusing to go down after contact. Ehlinger took a sack on third and 10 at the K State 39 yard line forcing a 55-yard Cameron Dicker field goal that he missed.

What happened: The Wildcats converted on two third downs moving the ball down the field on the Longhorns again. 8 plays and 67 yards later, the Wildcats got in the endzone on a 19-yard Skylar Thompson pass to Wykeen Gill. The Longhorns pass defense allowed 143 passing yards in the first quarter.

What happened: The Longhorns get on the board with a touchdown after opting to go for a fourth and short from the Wildcats 30-yard line. Ehlinger gave to Roschon Johnson on a zone ready and Johnson trucked through the line for a first down. Ehlinger completed four passes for 74 yards on the drive capped off with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Collin Johnson.

What happened: Kansas State converted on two third downs moving down inside the Longhorns 40 yard line. Skylar Thompson found Mason Barta in the flat for what looked like just a short gain — instead safety Brandon Jones forced a fumble and the Longhorns recovered at the 36 for a massive stop.

What happened: Texas couldn’t do anything with the turnover going three-and-out. Something to keep an eye on– guard Junior Angilau went down with an apparent leg injury on third down. He was able to walk off the field under his own power.

What happened: After a great punt by UT’s Chris Naggar, the Wildcats started the drive on their own 7-yard line. KSU hit on four straight pass plays for first downs, but the drive stopped at the Texas 45-yard line. Taquon Graham and B.J. Foster combined for a sack of Thompson.

What happened: The Longhorns offense came out with a purpose scoring quickly to tie this game at 14. It only took four plays for Texas to go 75 yards and get in the end zone. Keaontay Ingram scored on a 34-yard run on the option pitch from Ehlinger. Ingram has nine carries for 79 yards and a touchdown to lead the Longhorns.

What happened: The Longhorns defense forces its first three-and-out of the game. On third down, KSU QB Skylar Thompson avoided the Texas rush and looked like he would convert on third down, but the pass was dropped.

What happened: The offense kept cooking before silly penalties wasted a golden opportunity for a touchdown. Ehlinger hit Collin Johnson on a slant for 37 yards. Several plays later, a Kansas State pass interference put Texas in the redzone at the 6. On back-to-back plays, Texas took penalties that pushed them into a goal to go situation at the 29 yard line. Ehlinger was called for a block in the back. Parker Braun was called for unnecessary roughness. Cameron Dicker hit a 36-yard field goal giving the Longhorns their first lead of the game.

What happened: Roschon Johnson made another dazzling play in the run game picking up 20 yards to get the drive going. Texas went on a 10 play drive only facing third down once. Unfortunately, Ehlinger made a ill-advised throw at the Kansas State 28 going for Devin Duvernay near the endzone with three defenders in the area. Walter Neil Jr. picked off the pass and Texas wastes a scoring opportunity.
Fourth quarter, Kansas State possession
What happened: The Texas defense is stepping up in the second half allowing only 28 yards to Kansas State. The Longhorns kept field position in their favor forcing a punt at the 26-yard line. Brandon Jones served up the Longhorns first positive punt play of the season returning it 53 yards to the K State 21 yard line.
Fourth quarter, Texas possession
What happened: Set up with great field position, it didn’t take long for Texas to score a touchdown for some security. Keaontay Ingram scored his second touchdown of the afternoon bouncing a run to the left side for a 12-yard score.

What happened: It didn’t take Kansas State more than 20 seconds to get back into the game. Joshua Youngblood returned the kickoff 98 yards untouched for a Wildcats touchdown.

What happened: Buckle up for a tight fourth quarter. The Longhorns offense couldn’t do anything after being thrusted back onto the field following the kick return.
Kansas State possession, fourth quarter
What happened: Sophomore defensive back Jalen Green has been ejected for targeting wiping out what would’ve been a third and 10 for K State at the Texas 43 yard line. The personal foul gave the Wildcats 15 yards and a first down at the Texas 28. On third down, D’Shawn Jamison made a great defensive play breaking up the pass intended for Dalton Schoen in the end zone. Blake Lynch nailed a 45-yard field goal for the tie.

What happened: The Longhorns needed a drive to win the game. The key play came on a third and 14 near midfield. Ehlinger found Devin Duvernay on the sideline for an 18-yard gain. Keaontay Ingram had 27 total yards on the game-winning drive. Cameron Dicker hit a 25-yard field goal as time expired for the Longhorns win.
