Stony Point charges past Beaumont United, clinches spot in 6A boys hoops title game

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Stony Point ended the game on a 10-0 run to fend off Beaumont United 54-46 in the UIL 6A boys basketball semifinals Friday at the Alamodome.

Uzziah Buntyn sunk four of the free throws late and ended the game with 19 points on 6 of 12 shooting. Josiah Moseley scored 19 points on 8 of 15 from the field with seven rebounds while Goodlet finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
Stony Point went on a 12-2 in the final two minutes of the second quarter to turn a 19-14 deficit into a 26-21 halftime lead. Moseley scored 10 points during that flurry.
For Beaumont, Clarence Payia poured in a game-high 27 points on 10 of 22 shooting. The Timberwolves had been to the 6A title game the past three years, winning the title in 2021 and 2022.
With the win, Stony Point will play for its first-ever state championship. The Tigers take on Plano East for the 6A state title at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Plano East beat Stony Point 55-50 on Dec. 30 to give the Tigers their only loss of the season. Plano East is undefeated at 38-0 and topped Mansfield Lake Ridge 61-45 in the other semifinal.
