Sarkisian feeling confident after first spring practice
AUSTIN (KXAN) - Coming off an incredible 2023 season that resulted in a trip to the College Football Playoff, Texas football carried the momentum in spring practice starting Tuesday.
"This was a pretty good first day," said Texas head football coach Steve Sarkisian. "It was pretty evident that the energy was really good out there at practice."
In Texas' 12 win season, Sarkisian consistently praised the versatility of his team in their ability to win in multiple ways. As he continues to gauge this 2024 group, the Longhorns head coach sees similar possibilities.
"Just as a team in general, I don't think we're going to be a one dimensional team that's going to have to rely on one phase of the game to be overly dominant. I'd love for all three phases to be that."
Returning for his third season starting is junior quarterback Quinn Ewers. A big note from the team last year in spring football was how much Ewers took diet and exercise serious to change his body. Sarkisian sees more progress in that area.
"I'm hopeful we can maybe get three to five more pounds of just strengthening him up that way. I thought Quinn played really confident today and had good command."
The Longhorns will continue spring practice before the annual Orange - White Spring Game on April 20.
