Child porn discovered on man's laptop during investigation into West Campus invasive visual recording cases

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography after being investigated following instances of invasive visual recording in West Campus near the University of Texas at Austin campus.

According to Travis County Jail records, 39-year-old Anthony George DeGennaro was arrested Aug. 30 on the first-degree felony charge and later released on a $30,000 bond on Sept. 2.

KXAN has reached out to DeGennaro’s attorney regarding the charge. This article will be updated if a statement is received.

According to court documents, on more than one occasion, a man, later identified as DeGennaro, was seen on surveillance video entering the residences of women in West Campus while they slept. It was discovered that during these instances, the women, who were sleeping unclothed, were video recorded.

“[One victim] awoke to the suspect lifting the covers off of her body and observed a light was shining on her,” court documents said.

During an investigation into DeGennaro, detectives obtained a search warrant for his electronic devices to locate the videos that were possibly taken of the victims. On one device, investigators found 128 videos DeGennaro recorded of people inside their homes through windows.

“Out of the 128 videos, 37 were within the statute of limitations for Invasive Visual Recording,” documents said.

As a result of that discovery, court documents said multiple new cases were opened.

During a further digital forensics search of DeGennaro’s computer, investigators also discovered at least 40 files that met the Texas definition of child pornography, as well as several other files that contained child nudity.

According to Travis County court information, DeGennaro has a court hearing scheduled for Nov. 21 regarding the child pornography charge and another hearing scheduled for Dec. 19 related to two invasive visual recording charges.
