Antonio Brown in jail months after Miami boxing event shooting: reports

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown was booked into a New Jersey jail on Thursday, months after he was accused of opening fire into a crowd at an amateur boxing event in Miami.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service told WTVJ-TV that Brown arrived in Newark, New Jersey, from Dubai on Thursday.

Records indicate Brown, 37, was booked into the Essex County Jail, where he remains in custody, as of Thursday afternoon. Brown will be moved to Florida, but a Miami police spokesperson told NBC News that no date has been set for Brown's transfer to Miami-Dade County.

Brown was initially detained by authorities after he was involved in a fight with several people at the May 16 boxing event, hosted by popular streamer Adin Ross. He later took to social media, claiming he was “jumped” by people attempting to steal his jewelry.

An arrest warrant was issued in June for an attempted murder charge. The warrant stated that videos of the fight showed Brown punching a man before stealing a gun from a security guard and running toward him. Police said the cellphone video captured two gunshots ringing out.

The victim, who said he has known Brown since 2022, was grazed in the neck by a bullet and was taken to the hospital. Brown left the area before police arrived.

Brown played 12 seasons in the NFL, including time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New England Patriots, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders. The wide receiver announced his retirement shortly after he took off his jersey and pads in the third quarter of a Bucs game and stormed off the field.
