Catalogue I
Catalogue I is a minimalist lighting collection by the London-based design studio, Preziosi Lighting. Consisting of a table lamp, pendant lamp, and sconces, each piece is designed by the studio’s founder, Nick Metzler and is rooted in Preziosi Lighting’s narrative of daydreaming and craft— resulting in a series of lights that feels at once playful and exacting.
Catalogue I’s lights are composed of paper volumes stretched over hand-shaped steel frames. Each recalls the child-like wonder of origami and paper planes. “I imagine the pieces in this series as maquettes of vessels for transportation,” Metzler notes, as each light appears to float, flap, or gently spin off into space. Their silhouettes are simple and honest, allowing the materials to take center stage. When lit, the paper softly diffuses a warm, ambient glow, emphasizing subtle wrinkles and folds where structure meets surface.
Made through hand-bending and welding steel rods, paired with paper pattern-making techniques akin to garment construction, Catalogue I intentionally embrace imperfection. Variations in the paper and the patina of the steel are not corrected but celebrated, revealing the limits, and beauty, of the materials. In balancing careful planning with the pleasant surprise of irregularity, Catalogue I reflects Preziosi Lighting’s sensitivity to material honesty and the poetry found in making by hand.
