Jewel Block
Rosie Li Studio presents Jewel Block, a new lighting collection five years in the making and a decisive material departure for the Brooklyn-based studio. Inspired by early 20th-century architectural glass tiles and historic train signal lights, Jewel Block reimagines ribbed Fresnel lenses as a modular system of cubic, crystalline forms. The collection’s design language draws from mineral formations and pre-Columbian temple architecture, balancing the modern and the archaic. The studio was particularly drawn to stepped geometries that read as precursors to the Brutalist forms found in contemporary urban architecture.
At the core of the collection are three custom pressed-glass lenses, each housed within brass castings reminiscent of gemstone settings. Produced in an opal glass that appears translucent blue and glows amber when illuminated, the lenses interlock to form stellated structures that bend and diffuse light in rhythmic, prismatic patterns. The launch collection includes three wall-mounted sconces, one ceiling flush mount, two pendants, a table lamp, and a floor lamp, along with a custom linear chandelier available by commission.
