Sports Briefs: Redwood girls take second in SoCal

Kitty White poured in 23 points as Redwood High made a valiant run in the SoCal Classic championship game Tuesday, but finished second to Orange Lutheran in a 51-46 loss. Brooke Denler put up 11 points for the Giants (8-2).

The Lancers extended their lead to 12 points by the end of the third quarter as they outscored the Giants coming out of the break.

Redwood is scheduled to play O’Connor of Phoenix on Saturday in the fifth annual Sabrina Ionescu Showcase.

• Tam fell 70-34 to powerhouse American Canyon on Tuesday. The Red-tailed Hawks (3-7) are scheduled to play Newark Memorial on Saturday.

Boys basketball

Tam High (8-8) posted a 67-58 victory over Analy on Wednesday to win the consolation championship of the Windsor Tournament. Henry Bennett led the Red-tailed Hawks with 16 points, while all-tournament pick Elliot Kruger added 12 points and five steals. Ashton Sadow put up eight points and 10 rebounds for Tam, which went 2-1 in the tournament.

The Hawks put up some big numbers in Tuesday’s 81-33 tournament victory over Clear Lake as everyone scored, led by Kruger’s 12 points and seven steals. Max Nilsson and Cole Bester had 11 points each, while Neo Rodriguez-Pastor and Bennett had eight points each. The Hawks are scheduled to play Windsor on Saturday.

• Jack Ellis scored 14 points and Dylan Chelew added 11 points for St. Vincent during Tuesday’s 64-45 loss to Chico. The Mustangs are scheduled to play San Rafael on Monday.

Men’s basketball

College of Marin beat Canada College, 68-64, on the road Tuesday. The Mariners (10-4, 1-1 BVC) begin the new year on the road at Los Medanos College on Jan. 6.
