Mountain View: Margaret Abe-Koga named new mayor, Ellen Kamei vice mayor
MOUNTAIN VIEW — Council members on Wednesday made quick work in appointing new leadership, returning Margaret Abe-Koga to the mayor’s seat.
The council also appointed Ellen Kamei Vice-Mayor, continuing the woman-led council for another year.
Abe-Koga begins her second term as mayor in a context wholly different from her first: Mountain View has a budget surplus, jobs are plentiful and the prospect of massive investments in infrastructure and social services.
But the new leadership is also gearing up to tackle the outcomes of a new employee headcount tax set to bring in millions, a referendum on an RV ban implemented by the council in 2019 and a March ballot measure amending the city’s rent control provision.
