Walnut Creek BART station service restored after “major medical emergency”
The Walnut Creek BART station has reopened and service has been restored in both directions after a Saturday afternoon emergency involving a person under a train adjacent to the station platform, BART officials said.
The incident occurred at 2:40 p.m. and caused trains to come to a halt on the Antioch line. Soon after emergency crews responded to the person on the tracks, BART trains began single-tracking between Lafayette and Pleasant Hill, around 4 p.m. Both tracks opened shortly after 5 p.m.
The condition of the person on the tracks has not been released and BART officials have not said that the person had been hit by the train.
It was a bad day for Bay Area transit. A person on the Caltrain tracks in San Jose was struck and killed Saturday morning, and a fire on the tracks closed the Millbrae station Saturday afternoon.
