Big-rig truck hits and kills pedestrian on I-880 in Oakland
A pedestrian was hit and killed by a big-rig truck on Interstate 880 in Oakland on Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
OAKLAND — One person died early Thursday morning after a big-rig truck struck a pedestrian on Interstate 880, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers responded to reports of a crash at about 3:39 a.m. Thursday just south of 16th Avenue. The person was walking on southbound I-880 for unknown reasons when they were hit by the truck, according to authorities.
The collision forced law enforcement to close down all lanes of southbound I-880 until about 5 a.m. the CHP said.
The driver remained at the scene of the crash. Drugs and alcohol were not suspected of being factors in the crash.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau was withholding public identification pending confirmation of the person’s identity and notification of their next of kin.
