What is a Compass? A Compass is a compact SUV built in the Stellantis assembly plant in Toluca, Mexico, and sold in the U.S. and Canada by Jeep. Compass is a capable SUV, and it’s loaded with tech and driver assistance features, even in the base model. Now it comes standard with four wheel drive; which makes the 2023 Jeep Compass a pretty capable off roader that you can drive to the trail right off the showroom floor.

This week Jeep sent me a 2023 Compass High Altitude 4×4 SUV to test drive and review with a base window sticker price of $35,495. The options on the test Jeep are: the billet metallic clear coat paint for $495, the High Altitude package for $2,845 and the Elite interior group package for $1,645. The MSRP manufactures suggested retail price, including the $1,595 destination and delivery charge, is: $42,075.
After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to: $47,335. At just over $47 Grand you have a top of the line compact Jeep with all the options that you can buy for less than the competition. Plus you get to drive a Jeep and be part of the cool car crowd.
Power comes from a 2.0L liter turbocharged inline 4 cylinder gas engine with 200 horsepower and 221 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s bolted to an 8 speed automatic transmission, routed into a 4×4 all wheel drive traction control system with power assisted anti-lock braking. Gas mileage is respectable at 24 MPG city and 32 MPH on the highway.
The High Altitude package includes: body color side fascias and wheel flares, a set of 19″ aluminum satin granite crystal painted alloy wheels with BSW black side wall 235/45 R19 all season tires, a full suite of premium LED exterior lighting, a 10.25″ full color driver dashboard cluster, Uconnect 5 with a 10.1″ center stack touch screen display panel with Alexa built in and voice commands, a dual pane panoramic sun roof and an Alpine premium sound system that delivers your mixed tapes through a 12 channel, 506 watt amplifier with 9 speakers into a booming rear cargo area mounted 8″ subwoofer.
The Elite Interior Group adds a driver’s seat with memory, 8 way power adjustable front seats, 2 way power adjustable lumbar front seats, ventilated and heated front seats, a set of second row USB type A and C power ports and a foot activated power rear tailgate.

Just a note on current new vehicle sales prices. According to Kelley Blue Book, the total average price paid for a new vehicle this year is 1.6% higher than a year ago. Now the average transaction sales price is at $48,808, as of June 2023, and that’s up by 0.3 %, and $150 more, than the average sales price record of $48,658, that was just set in May, 2023.
Average transaction sale prices just keep going up, month over month, no matter what the interest rates are, how tight the credit market is, or how many models are available to buy.
