Alberto, the first storm of the 2024 season, will strengthen slightly overnight before making landfall south of the U.S. border with Mexico early Thursday morning.

Tropical Storm Alberto, the first named storm of the 2024 hurricane season, formed on Wednesday morning in the Gulf of Mexico and is heading for the coast of Mexico.

The storm, located 320 miles southeast of Brownsville, Texas, is traveling west-southwest at 9 mph and has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

Forecasters are also monitoring two other potential systems that could impact coastal northern Florida on Friday. Alberto is expected to strengthen slightly overnight before making landfall early Thursday morning south of the U.S. border with Mexico. Once inland, the storm is forecasted to weaken quickly and dissipate over Mexico by Thursday night.
