– Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) accused of extorting money from defaulters
-Tunde Olusesi, KAI public relations officer denies the allegations and warned anybody who flouts laws guiding the activities of the agency would not go scoff free
The alleged shady practices of some Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) officers at the popular Ojota bridge have attracted the criticisms from residents.
Some residents who spoke with the Naij.com, accused the officers of extorting money from anyone caught dashing across the expressway instead of using the provided pedestrian bridge.
Since the pedestrian bridge was reconstructed, the Lagos state government has warned pedestrians against dashing across the expressway.

In spite the warning and as dangerous as the act seems due to the traffic congestion in the axis, some pedestrians still flout the rule.
A resident who prefers to be anonymous said some KAI officers allegedly seize this opportunity to fleece the defaulters by threatening to arraign them at the court for the environmental offence.
As a result, the defaulters were intimidated into parting with some amount of money.
In reaction, the public relations officer of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), Tunde Olusesi denied the allegations.
According to him, the allegations that some of the officers don’t allow the law take its cause by demanding
defaulters to bail themselves with a minimum of N 1,000 and being compelled to enter the vehicle known as
black maria as falsehood.

Olusesi said they are mere allegations that cannot be proved by providing officers’ names, vehicle’s number and the time.
“Any officer found extorting money should be reported. You can just call any of the office numbers like complaint desk number, director of public affairs number, or the ones written on the black maria,” he said.
He warned that any defaulter or officer who flouts the laws guiding the activities of the agency would not go scoff free irrespective of the excuses or reasons.
”Any defaulter’s reason will not be plausible before the court because every one is expected to be law abiding. The minimum charge a first offender could be asked to pay is N3,000 depending on the magistrate handling the case but if he does not pay the fine, he would be asked to do some community services like clean the court environment, cutting the grass and many more,” he added.
