Receding hairline is a type of progressive hair loss where your hairline will begin to thin commonly on either sides of your forehead before you get a bald patch on top of your head.
The hairline is an important part of a woman’s head and that is the part more prone to breakage. No matter how long your hair is, when you have receding edges your hair style would not look good. You would then be forced to cover it up or to wear certain hair styles which would cover the hairline.
This, however, should not be the case; as we should be able to wear any hair style we desire and also flaunt our hairline.
However do not think only people with relaxed hair can have receding hair lines, even some ladies on natural hair have receding hairline.
Here are 7 ways to prevent receding hair-line:
1. Avoid using glue on your hair: This is one of the easiest ways to have receding hairline. This occurs where you use bonding glue around your hairline when wearing a weave or lace front wigs. When the hair extension is being removed, there can be hair breakage at the hairline; also the chemicals in the glue also cause breakage.
2. Avoid pulling/tight hairstyles: Hairstyles that will pull your hair-line should be the enemy. Tight hairstyles such as braids, Ghana weaving, tight buns, tight corn rows, tight ponytails, tight plaits should be avoided at all costs. Some hair stylists would braid the hair so tight that the wearer would experience bumps around the forehead. When this happens, especially when the tightness occurs at your edges the result is breakage in that area.

3. Keep your cleanser or toner away from your hair-line especially if it contains alcohol. The alcohol will dry out your hair-line, make it brittle and break it off.
4. When relaxing your hair, allow the hair-line be the last place relaxer has been applied: Do not use the teeth of your comb to straighten your hair-line, use the bone of your comb, that way with minimal impact, will preserve the hair on your hair-line from falling out due to the harsh relaxer treatment.
5. Make sure you rinse out the relaxer thoroughly: Relaxer residue can destroy hair-line, concentrate on getting the neutralizing shampoo to get out every trace of relaxer on your hair-line.
6. Eat healthy: It is important to ensure that your body is getting the vitamins and minerals that it needs. Often times the body will show poor health in the hair follicles and finger nails before and actual illness is detected.
7. Cultivate good hair care practices: The key to preventing your edges from breaking is to ensure that you practice good hair care. When washing your hair it is important to follow-up with a deep conditioner or at the very least a rinse out conditioner. Try to avoid using heat in the form of blow dryers, flat irons, curling wands, etc, on your hair all the time and if you must use heat apply a heat protectant.
