Kroger announces plan to build new Powell storefront
POWELL, Ohio (WCMH) -- Although Kroger opened a new central Ohio storefront earlier this month, the grocery chain is already planning another location.
The retailer announced this month it will construct a 123,00-square-foot Marketplace store in Powell near the intersection of Home Road and Sawmill Parkway. With an estimated opening in late 2025, the new Powell storefront will cost about $35 million to construct and begin operating.
"Central Ohio is growing and thriving, and Kroger is investing to serve our customers and
support our hometowns," said Jon Young, Kroger Columbus division president. "As the
state of Ohio's fourth largest employer, we are committed to serving our customers by providing
fresh, affordable food, creating employment opportunities, and working to end hunger in our
communities."
Kroger's announcement came as the chain opened the new Jerome Village Marketplace at 12116 Sycamore Trace in Plain City. The storefront marks the brand's first new central Ohio store in 15 years and cost the company about $38 million.
Labeled as an "enhanced shopping experience," the Jerome Village store is home to expanded produce, deli, bakery, meat and seafood departments. The retailer also provides clients with a sushi counter, a Murray’s cheese shop, and a Starbucks. A drive-thru pharmacy and an on-site Fuel Center rounds out the facility.
Throughout the last five years, Kroger's Columbus Division has invested more than $390 million in new stores and renovations. The division employs nearly 18,000 associates, offering benefits for part-time and full-time associates interested in furthering their education. Associates can take advantage of up to $21,000 in reimbursement during their careers with Kroger for an educational pursuit of their choosing, from a GED to a Ph.D., according to the company.
