Police investigate fatal hit-skip after woman struck twice on I-71 in north Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A hit-skip death remains under investigation as Columbus police continue to search for two vehicles who reportedly struck a woman while on Interstate 71 in March.
According to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, police are still looking for two vehicles that struck a woman on I-71 North after she crashed into a median wall and began walking near the East North Broadway exit.
Police said that on March 30 at 3:20 a.m., 23-year-old Tania Irvin was involved in a single-car accident and her vehicle became disabled, resting against the median wall and facing southbound. As Irvin began to walk northbound, she was struck by a vehicle.
Irvin was then run over by a second vehicle as she lay on the highway before medics pronounced her dead at 3:33 a.m. Both vehicles left the scene without stopping, according to police.
The Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation, which remains ongoing. Additionally, Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for any information leading to the arrest or indictment of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
