1 dead in crash involving semi, van on I-270
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- One person died Friday morning in an interstate crash that involved a semi and a van.
According to Columbus police, the crash occurred on Interstate 270 on the Southeast Side, between the exits for U.S. 33 and Alum Creek Road in the southbound lanes. Police initially said two people died, but later said it was only one person.
Traffic cameras from the Ohio Department of Transportation showed the semi overturned on the right shoulder, with emergency rescue crews and police from multiple agencies responding.
I-270 South was shut down through the morning. Law enforcement initially used the left shoulder to clear out stopped traffic. The shutdown began at U.S. 33 and later was pushed back to I-70.
Details on the cause of the crash were not immediately available. That section of I-270 has been under construction.
