South Carolina legislators are not getting paid for the rest of the year over a lawsuit about a recent pay raise. The state Supreme Court has halted the raise, which increased in-district compensation from $1,000 to $2,500 a month. Republican state Sen. Wes Climer sued. He says the raise violates the state constitution by taking effect immediately instead of after the next election.
